Joonatan Henriksson Quintet

Joonatan Henriksson Quintet is an ensemble founded in 2022, whose members got to know each other through their studies at the Sibelius Academy’s Youth Department. The ensemble has performed at the April Jazz Festival in 2022 and has developed its musical expression and ensemble playing over the years. In 2023, the band’s leader Henriksson was awarded the first Jazz Union Taimi Prize for young jazz musicians who are passionate about developing their own musical expression, which included a performance at the Pori Jazz Festival in 2024. The band’s music draws on a wide range of jazz styles, especially those that have become popular since the 1960s, but the band’s playing is not limited stylistically to any one jazz genre. The band’s music consists of the band members’ own personal compositions, reflecting their musical vision.
